Larry Pentz

With textured, eroded surfaces, Larry Dean Pentz's metal sculptures evoke industrial and natural processes. The owner of a foundry for over forty years, Pentz is fascinated by the physical forces that constantly alter the earth: collisions, thermodynamics, pulling, pushing, eroding. He must employ some of these same processes to transform aluminum alloy into sculptural works, enacting a "metamorphosis" of raw material into art. Originally from Pennsylvania, Pentz currently lives in the Seattle area. He studied industrial design and sculpture at the Cleveland Institute of Art and also studied sculpture in the MFA program at Kent State University. Since the 1970s he has shown his works in galleries, primarily in Ohio and Washington.
