Idle Hands
Gallery IMA is pleased to present Idle Hands, the latest mixed media sculpture by Seattle artist Gary Berg. Mr. Berg’s recycled wood and concrete sculpture are a meditation on the constant struggle between the natural and the man-made. His forms are massive yet minimal – often seeming to lean precariously, defiant of gravity. They are intriguing juxtapositions of opposites; heavy and light, stable and unbalanced, natural and man-made.

Mr. Berg received his B.S. in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls and his M.F.A in sculpture and glassblowing from Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. He recently participated in the exhibition The Book Borrowers: Contemporary Artists Transforming the Book, at the Bellevue Arts Museum.

New Work
The latest body of work by Eric Adrian Lee includes mixed media paintings and a series of nature photography printed on hemlock panel. With his mixed media paintings, Lee examines the way in which abstract forms are associated with specific memories or reactions, much in the way that colors are often associated with certain moods. As for his materials, Mr. Lee generally uses a mixture of paints, plaster, sand or even cement and rust on his canvases, experimenting with texture and deliberately cracking and stressing the surface to create the abstract forms and textures that his work is based on. They are a “meditation on materials”, focusing on texture and individual strokes and gestures.

Eric Adrian Lee was born in Vancouver, WA and received a Bachelor of fine arts in painting from Greenville College in Illinois.
