James Brown, Illumination,
Oil on Canvas, 57 x 104 inches
Arrangements
Gallery IMA is please to present Seattle artist James Brown's latest series. His abstract oil and acrylic paintings are an energetic construction of brustrokes completely filling the canvas, resulting in little, if any negative space. Brown creates an organic flow of rhythem using a primary and secondary color palatte.
"'Arrangements' is a new collection of work focusing on the purely abstract. In past work, my images often gave hints of tangible scenery, figures, or objects," says Brown. "In Arrangements I've tried to move further away from any hint at recognizable objects. In these works, I'm focused exclusively on color and form, and their relationship or arrangements."
James Brown has had his works showcased nationwide as well as locally, including the PONCHO Invitational Fine Art Auction in 2006.

Mark Tracy, Endued,
Oil on Canvas, 72.5 x 48 inches
Now In This Time
Gallery IMA is pleased to present local artist Mark Tracy’s latest body of oil on canvas paintings. He works to express human emotion and sensuality, primarily through figure and symbol. Loose brushstrokes and a palate of contrasting soft pastel-like colors and deep reds are defining elements of his work, reminiscent of abstract expressionist action painters such as Guy Anderson and Willem de Koonig, among others. Now in This Time is a provocative series of both large and small-scale oil on canvas paintings.
“More than anything I wish to crush the gears of speed to slow us down.” Says Tracy. “We need better hydraulics in thought and the courage to reset our directions.”
Mark Tracy was born in Port Angeles, Washington in 1962. With various educational studies over the years, his primary focus has been on self-development and has used this intended approach to develop his current work.
