Recent Works
Gallery IMA is pleased to present Recent Works by artist Alan Corkery Hahn. Local artist Alan Corkery Hahn showcases the understated simplicity of his needlepoint drawings and manipulated book sculpture, inviting viewers along as he navigates the connective thread of the persistence of touch.

“This work deals variously with the following topics—text and its fluid meanings, the primacy of human touch, authorship/ownership and art as a commodity, Wabi-sabi and the aesthetics of imperfection, personal identity, gender roles and subjectivity. … There is a continuous return to the notion that our marks contain the illusory promise of permanence beyond ourselves. Is that enough? Ultimately, that is all we have.”

Alan Corkery Hahn received his MFA from the University of Washington and has enjoyed success both in the Pacific Northwest, with collections at Nordstrom and the University of Washington, as well as internationally. He has been included in several solo and group exhibitions, including The Book Borrowers: Contemporary Artists Transforming the Book at the Bellevue Arts Museum.

So Long
Gallery IMA is excited to present local ceramicist Jason Huff. His figurative clay sculpture often incorporates various materials into his work, ranging from papier maché to f fake fur. The result is an exploration of his Japanese heritage, fused with the American fascination with image and persona in pop culture. He employs various techniques including slip casting, throwing and hand building.

With this latest series, Huff has taken his work to an even deeper, more personal level. “The work in So Long is centered on the recent death of my older brother and how I have struggled to come to terms with his passing and our strained relationship.” says Huff, “This work is an homage to his wanderlust and a reminder to me to take some chances once in a while.”

Jason Huff received his MFA in Ceramics from the University of Washington. He has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions including Parallel Lines at the Wing Luke Asian Museum, and Cutism at the Kirkland Arts Center. He was also the recipient of the 2007 Artist Trust Fellowship Award.
