October 2nd - November 2nd, 2008

Opening reception Thursday, October 2nd, 6 - 8pm

Take Another Look, showcases a new body of work by Bill Baber which encourages us to reflect with the artist as he revisits and reexamines the familiar, approaching the past with both expectations and questions.  What has changed over time?  Out of this retrospection, something fresh emerges – a different whole forged by new observations on old elements, at once recognizable and foreign.  Explains Bill,

“When details are shuffled, they reminisce with memories that change. I stitch together moments between reflection and anticipation, fashioning them into landscapes. When I place combinations into windows, I ask myself to reconsider moments, relish the isolation of details, and look to the whole for dialogue that explores and grows.”

Bill has shown his work in several exhibitions throughout Washington from Pratt Fine Arts, The Center on Contemporary Art and Bellevue Art Museum.

Perceptions

Local painter James Brown’s oil and acrylic works exhibit an almost frenzied construction completely filling the canvas resulting in little, if any, negative space.  He creates an organic flow of chaotic rhythm using a primary and secondary color palette, mixing figuration loosely with abstraction, often with bones and human forms as his subject.

In Perceptions, James is “reflecting the base impressions on my brain when confronted with emotion, circumstance, or the physical.”  He continues, “I shut down the part of the senses that interprets and tries to classify the information it receives, and then attempt to perfect the senses as a tool for recreation of those perceptions.”  As an artist, he is constantly looking for the truth in his work, using his paintings as a mirror of sorts to make discoveries about himself and the world around him.

New Works

Glenn Ossiander has enjoyed national success, with his wildly vibrant paintings.  Using rich, vivid color, Glenn strives to achieve a particular atmosphere in his works.  The saturated palette is complimented by the artist’s brushstrokes, which vary from piece to piece, laying down and taking away paint in styles alternately expressive and restrained.  “It has always fascinated me that two people can look at the same image and see different things.  My paintings make no attempt to represent anything in a direct way.  I’m trying to evoke a sense of energy, mood and light.”

Glenn honed his artistic skills in Pennsylvania before moving to his current residence, Pacific Palisades in Southern California – a transition which would be reflected in his work.  His paintings hang in many private, public and corporate collections across the United States.
