Eric Adrian Lee & Larry Dean Pentz

April 3rd - April 26th, 2014
Opening Reception: Thursday, April 3rd, 6-8pm

Eric Adrian Lee's newest series of paintings are dense, textural works that incorporate many layers of materials including sand, earth, rust, and salt. Through a range of techniques such as pouring, staining, soaking, or scraping, Lee creates, in his words, a "mass of matter" with "presence and weight." The surface of his paintings contain color variations, cracking, or peeling: deliberate alterations that highlight the inherent properties and subtleties of each material. In addition to previous shows at Gallery IMA, Eric Adrian Lee has shown his work at galleries in Denver and Portland, Oregon. He studied painting at Greenville College in Illinois and currently lives in Portland.

With textured, eroded surfaces, Larry Dean Pentz's metal sculptures evoke industrial and natural processes. In this upcoming show, we present his newest body of work that includes both freestanding and wall mounted pieces. The owner of a foundry for over forty years, Larry Pentz is fascinated by the physical forces that constantly alter the earth: collisions, thermodynamics, pulling, pushing, eroding. He must employ some of these same processes to transform aluminum alloy into sculptural works, enacting a "metamorphosis" of raw material into art.
