I value the craft and construction of objects. The time it takes to cut, fold and construct a sculpture is time I can consider and appreciate the space and material. I trace my interest in the explorations of materials and structures to the origami projects of my childhood – there was always that last magical step that turned the network of paper folds into a 3D object. My early interest in materials and construction grew stronger and linked with my attraction to familiar images and objects and how they connect people, experiences and space. Now, I strive to find that unexpected and surprising moment where materials/objects/ideas meet unexpectedly and invite unlikely comparisons.
